A new branch of Abbey Insurance has newly opened on Townhall Street, Enniskillen, but the long-standing team are no strangers to the local area. Group CEO Trevor Shaw has lived in the Lakeland County for over 20 years, while working from the company’s headquarters in Carrickfergus, County Antrim. Meanwhile Marketing Manager Michelle McCutcheon is originally from Boa Island, near Kesh. The pair, who are part of Abbey’s head office team, are thrilled to be bringing the Abbey network to their home county and bringing a number of insurance jobs to Enniskillen.
Abbey Insurance Enniskillen
Trevor said: “Opening a branch of Abbey Insurance in Enniskillen is a great development not only for the company, but also for myself. I live locally and I’m proud to be raising my own family in Fermanagh, so it is a pleasure to be extending the company’s branch network here. As a company we consistently aim to be local, wherever we are, and by moving into Fermanagh we are doing just that.”
Trevor has had a long career in the insurance industry, and has seen Abbey evolve to become one of the largest insurance brokers in Northern Ireland. Originally established by George Storey in 1973, Abbey Insurance now has 23 branches across Northern Ireland following the company’s takeover of Open + Direct Insurance earlier this year. With the addition of ten new members of staff in Enniskillen, Abbey Insurance employs over 400 people across the country.
Trevor said: “Currently, one in every five cars in Northern Ireland is insured by Abbey Insurance Brokers. This is a fantastic achievement for us and we want to bring that trust and assurance to the people of Fermanagh. But car insurance isn’t all Abbey does – we are experts in home, van, travel, motorbike and taxi insurance too. We are an insurance broker – which means we search from a range of insurance companies to find our customers the best deals – saving them time, and money. We also only hire the best staff to advise our customers, and these people are at the heart of our operation.”
Home and Bred
Joining Trevor in opening the new Enniskillen branch is Marketing Manager Michelle McCutcheon, whose role sees her planning and managing all of Abbey’s advertising and brand communications in NI, ROI and the wider UK. She said: “At its heart, Abbey is a family-owned, local business, something I believe will connect with the people of Fermanagh. Our professionally-trained staff are brilliant at what they do – which is finding great, competitive, affordable insurance to suit all of our customer’s needs.”
Michelle joined Abbey three years ago, after a ten year career in the marketing industry and has been recently announced as a finalist in a UK-wide insurance awards and the Chartered Institute of Marketing Ireland Awards.
Michelle said: “Today, there is a wide range of choice when it comes to insurance, but the difference with Abbey is that we cut through the noise to give customers the best options simply and efficiently. At the end of the day, we are a people-focused business – we care about our customers and our staff, so we can’t wait to bring the business to Enniskillen.”
Leading the branch will be new manager Emma McGoldrick, from Irvinestown, who joins the team after a long career in the local insurance industry. She’ll head up the team of ten staff and introduce Abbey to the area.
Emma said, “My friends joke about how much I love my job and how excited I am about joining Abbey in this important new role. It’s true that nobody looks forward to shopping for insurance, but “I like to think that we can definitely make it a more friendly, personal and straightforward process. People can spend hours and hours shopping around and searching for car and home insurance – often in their downtime, when they could be doing something much more fun! Why would you, when our team are here to do all the legwork for you?
“We cut through all the jargon and give you fair, like-for-like comparisons, that you can work from and make straightforward decisions on, saving you time and money. But what we value above all else is quality. We consider what you need, and what you don’t, to make sure that while you are getting the best price, you are also getting the best quality. I can’t wait to open our doors on Townhall Street, near the Diamond, and start introducing Abbey to Fermanagh.”
