We’re your friendly, local insurance experts.
Abbey Insurance Brokers was formed in 1973 and has grown to be one of Northern Ireland’s largest Insurance Brokers, operating 23 branches province wide. This means no matter where you live, we’re never too far away and able to provide you with a great deal on your insurance.
On 1st February 2016, Abbey announced that it had completed the acquisition of Open + Direct Insurance from its UK owners, Swinton Group Limited.
On 2nd October 2018, Prestige Insurance Holdings Limited, the parent company of Abbey Insurance, announced that it had completed a deal which sees US global equity firm, Capital Z Partners Management, LLC (“Capital Z”) take a majority share in the Group.
We’re a Broker, not an insurer.
The majority of people don’t really understand what the difference is between a broker (like Abbey) and an Insurer. The key difference is that an insurance broker can shop around on your behalf to get you the best insurance deal from a range of insurers, whereas an Insurer can only quote their own products. This means that when you come to us for an insurance quote, we are able to search and compare from our panel of expert insurers to find you the right deal. We search to help you save.
We’re a local insurance company which employs local people.
Many of our customers really like the fact that if you have a problem, need a replacement certificate or need to make a claim, we’re right here for you, either over the phone or face to face in any of our 23 local branches. We’ve kept all our call operators right here in Northern Ireland, so you don’t need to call the other side of the world or have to pay for premium rate numbers. Being a local insurance broker means we know the Northern Ireland marketplace and are focused on achieving the best insurance rates for our customers from our large panel of insurers.
A local insurance company supporting local charities
As Northern Ireland’s largest local insurance company, we are committed to actively supporting local charities. For over 40 years, Abbey and its employees have developed strong relationships with a number of charities through sponsorships and corporate donations.
For the past 10 years Abbey has supported the Northern Ireland Hospice. Each month, staff make a voluntary contribution, which is then matched by the Company Directors, resulting in a sizeable donation being made each year. To date, we have donated over £120,000.
We also have a number of other charities and local organisations who receive our support throughout the year.
