What do you use your car for? Perhaps it’s mainly school drop offs, runs to the supermarket and your daily commute? If however, you find that you are driving your car for business purposes, travelling between work locations, visiting customers, or driving employees around, you should have business use cover.
Standard Cover v Business Use
Standard car insurance applies for vehicle cover when the use is largely social, domestic, for pleasure or commuting. In general commuting covers a standard trip to and from your work location. If your business travel is in excess of this, or if your job requires you to drive your own car for the purposes of work, you will need to adjust your insurance to include business use.
When contacting your insurance provider for guidance as to whether business use is relevant to you, you should consider the nature of your work, the amount of time you spend driving and for what purposes, in addition to how many work miles you would expect to cover per year (approximately).
There are a few different types of business use cover, depending on how you use your car for work/your job. Our staff can advise on the level of cover you will require.
Why is this important to have business use?
It’s important to have the right type of insurance so that, in the event of an accident, you will be appropriately covered. If you were in the course of a business journey or on your way to a meeting, a standard car insurance policy will not cover you. Your insurance relies on your honest disclosure of information, both when you take out the policy and if you have any changes in circumstances.
Is it more expensive?
It’s important to have the right type of insurance cover. Business use insurance provides a higher level of cover but won’t necessarily cost a lot more – our staff will be happy to assist with this.
