One of our favourite things about the Christmas season is the chance to embrace new, festive décor. Be it twinkling lights on a staircase, a holly wreath on the door, or swapping everyday candles for cinnamon spiced ones, every touch contributes towards that wonderful Christmassy feeling we all know and love. We caught up with top Northern Irish interiors blogger, French Grey Lifestyle, to hear what Christmas décor trends we can expect to see ‘decking the halls’ this season… Over to you Judy!
A favourite trend of mine is ‘White Christmas’, and I indulge in it year after year. All of my home inspiration comes from nature and I just adore sparkling white and silver decoration, with glittering fairy lights on a leafy green tree. It just encompasses winter to me, and reminds me of morning frost on the trees.
When I think of traditional Christmas décor, I think of the country Christmases I had growing up. Traditional reds, chunky knitted throws and cushions. Country styling is all about raw, rustic elements paired with classic forms and up-cycled pieces for a homely, tactile and relaxing feel. Think raw wood, textured finishes, industrial metals, hessian fabrics, beautiful linens, tree motifs, vintage tableware and a mix of traditional Christmassy colours. It’s a classic festive look with a farmhouse spin.
The Nordic Style has taken the world by storm over recent years and has become one of the biggest interiors trends around the globe. We will see Nordic style continue to have a strong influence on Christmas decorating in 2017, but a more pared back palette of soft neutrals with lots of blonde wood, heavy textures and pops of metallic will be the backbone of the look. It’s relaxed, calming decor that embraces quality materials, Scandinavian shapes, muted tones, clean lines and tactile, natural elements.

While having a beautifully decorated house is wonderful at Christmas-time, it needs to be protected by great insurance. The festive season is renowned for an increased number of burglaries, and with extra lights and candles, fires can be rife too.
